The Smithy The Smithy is unique and fascinating, and steeped in local history. Up until 1975, it was a working Smithy and the workplace of Mr Bill Prideaux, who claimed to be the oldest working blacksmith at the age of 89! It was later turned into a museum which illustrated the craft of the blacksmith with the original tools and forge. It then fell into a state of disrepair until it was refurbished in 2000. Many of the original features have been kept and restored to make a truly unique holiday experience. The half loft which was used to store the iron has been transformed into open plan sleeping areas, and incorporates a minstrel's gallery. The forge and anvil from the Smithy are now housed in the Lyn and Exmoor museum, which is just down the road from The Smithy. The Smithy sleeping arrangements are open plan, making the Smithy suitable for families and couples, but not for two couples. The double master bedroom is on the Minstrel's Gallery and one of the two single bedrooms is not totally enclosed - the wall does not go all the way to the vaulted ceiling. Please see the More pictures page to clarify this explanation! Weekly bookings start on a Saturday. Carr View/ Casa del Sol/ Castle Heights/ Cloud Nine/ Nautilus/ Seascape |
